The Walt Disney Company and affiliates and their stable of beloved characters have been associated with a broad range of high-quality consumer products, including toys, fashion apparel, books and magazines, interactive games, food, furnishings, and more.

Disney Consumer Products

Disney Consumer Products (DCP) is the business segment of The Walt Disney Company that extends the Disney brand to merchandise ranging from apparel, toys and home décor to books and magazines, foods and beverages, stationery, electronics and animation art. This is accomplished through DCP's various lines of business which include: Disney Toys, Disney Fashion & Home, Disney Food, Health & Beauty and Disney Stationery.

Other businesses involved in Disney's consumer products sales are Disney Publishing Worldwide, the world's largest publisher of children's books and magazines and DisneyStore.com, the company's official shopping portal. The Disney Stores retail chain, which debuted in 1987, is owned and operated by Disney in North America and Europe. The Disney Stores chain in Japan is operated under a license agreement with Disney.

DCP's origins trace back to 1929 when Walt Disney licensed the image of Mickey Mouse for use on a children's writing tablet. In 1932, Kay Kamen took charge of what then became Disney Licensing, setting the standard for character licensing within the entertainment industry.

Under the leadership of Chairman Andy Mooney, DCP has shifted from strictly a licensed business model to a true consumer products company focused on product innovation, creativity and quality, and building relationships with key retailers. Today, Disney continues to reign as the world's largest licensor with global retail sales of $30 billion for 2008¹.

DCP develops Disney entertainment franchises into 365 day-a-year product opportunities at retailers worldwide. Disney-branded merchandise is inspired by characters from Disney's beloved animated films, including its first - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - to more recent films like Lilo & Stitch, Chicken Little and Bolt, and Disney•Pixar's Toy Story, Cars, and WALL•E. DCP also supports live-action films with imaginative merchandising programs including most recently the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and Enchanted. Coming up, DCP will introduce product lines inspired by Toy Story 3, The Princess and the Frog and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and Tron.

Additionally, DCP has a sharp focus on the creation of products derived from Disney's television entertainment, including popular tween sensations High School Musical, Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place and Jonas Brothers as well as preschool programs Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins and Handy Manny, and the popular boys series Power Rangers.

DCP has grown the global reach of Disney's girls franchises through an array of imaginative and compelling products. Sales of licensed Disney Princess merchandise have ballooned from $300 million since its 2000 launch at the Disney Stores to above the $4B mark with products now available globally. The newly-launched Disney Fairies franchise has also taken flight and is on track to become a powerful lifestyle brand for six-to-eight year-old girls.

Whether it's tiaras for little princesses, Pooh blankets for babies, books for preschoolers or digital music players for tweens, DCP is about The Walt Disney Company's broad content and the magical products it inspires.
