| Disney Unveils New Fashion Collection for Kids
Exclusive Disney Collection at Macy's Features Sophisticated Design with Classic Themes and a Touch of Whimsy
Glendale, CA (March 15, 2008) — Designed to appeal to trend-forward parents and discerning gift-givers, a new Disney collection of kid's apparel will be unveiled today at Macy's Union Square in San Francisco. Featuring imaginative themes from Disney's rich heritage of stories, the inaugural spring collection will offer multiple wardrobe opportunities for boys and girls. Gents will swashbuckle into spring with Never Land-themed separates inspired by Walt Disney's Peter Pan, while girls wander into Wonderland-themed dresses, tees and capris inspired by Walt Disney's Alice In Wonderland. The collection will be available only at select Macy's stores across the country.
"Our new Disney apparel line speaks to a consumer who is looking for fashion-forward wardrobe options for their children that preserve the humor and imagination of youth," said Jim Calhoun, executive VP, global apparel, Disney Consumer Products (DCP). "When parents see this line, they'll be struck by the magic and creativity of Disney's rich heritage coming through in an understated, tasteful way."
As inspiration for the new Disney apparel line, DCP revisited more than 80 years of classic stories and fairy tales from the Disney library that have touched generations. With this archive of inspiration, designers created a line that will bring to life worlds captured in kids' imaginations. The initial collections, Never Land for boys and Wonderland for girls, bring together embroidery, graphics, detailing and appliqués in the great tradition of Walt Disney's philosophy that "Every child is born with a vivid imagination."
The essence of Peter Pan's world comes through in the Never Land collection as Pan's adventures are incorporated into themed elements like a captain of the seas tee with embroidery and detailing or a five-pocket jean with a pirate logo on the back pocket. The Wonderland collection takes girls inside Alice's magical journey with delicate mushroom appliqués and tea party prints on denim skimmers, a tea party dress or a mushroom tee.
The line also features select Mickey Mouse-themed pieces that give a subtle nod to the character that started it all, with artfully embroidered Mickey icons on woven shirt pockets and cargo shorts.
The launch of the line kicks off a series of Disney-themed events at Macy's stores around the country. Macy's shoppers will receive a sketch of their favorite Disney character drawn by an onsite Disney Character Artist with each purchase of $25.00 or more. Or children will be able to attend a 30 minute "Learn to Draw" seminar taught by a Disney Character Artist. Check local Macy's stores for details.
