Our First Environmentalist: Walt Disney
Happy 50th!

Dear Stakeholders,

Dr. Beth Stevents

I am so proud to be at the heart of a movement that positively affects so many people and communities. At Disney's Animal Kingdom, where I served as vice president for 6 years, we saw genuine interest on the part of both Cast Members and Guests to learn about, and participate in, conservation and environmental efforts. In my short time in this new position, I've been energized by the enthusiasm that extends across the entire breadth of The Walt Disney Company.

Along with my colleagues, I see potential to further reduce our environmental impact at every level, in every segment, and relating to many of our operational procedures. This exciting challenge begins by refining our measurement of our enterprise's environmental footprint, prioritizing issues, and setting short-term targets aimed at achieving long-term results. We see opportunities to further improve our measurement and reporting methodology. We see potential to enact innovative operational solutions that can be applied across the Company. And we are firm in our belief that we have responsibility to inspire audiences around the globe to take positive actions on behalf of the environment.

We hope that by next year we will share progress on all these fronts in greater detail. In the meantime, we pledge a commitment to the objective of reducing the Company's impact on the environment through the establishment of clear milestones and a transparent approach to getting the job done.

What we seek to accomplish today at The Walt Disney Company is the kind of ambitious effort that Walt himself would have loved. As we push the boundaries of what seems possible, every Cast Member, employee, Guest, and consumer will be asked to take action. It's an exciting time and together we can make an important difference.

Sincerely,

 Beth Stevens
