Green Building

Green building can positively impact many environmental aspects including energy consumption. In 2007, ESPN sought U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for its Building C in Bristol, Conn. The LEED certification for Building C relies on a variety of strategies and innovations to reduce the impact of a building on the environment before construction begins, during construction, and through the entire life cycle of the building. The building design ensures that outdoor air delivery will be continuous and effective, reducing air conditioning demand. Also, builders will install heating and cooling systems that surpass local code requirements to optimize energy performance. The building will be completed in March 2010.

The ABC Prospect Studios in Los Angeles, CA underwent numerous retrofits to increase energy efficiency. The roof of Stage 6W was replaced with white Sarnafil PVS to reduce energy consumption related to air conditioning by 20 percent. The News Center roof was also replaced with white Sarnafil PVC to reduce cooling electrical usage on the north end by 15 percent. A boiler in the Silver Lake Building was replaced to reduce natural gas usage by 20 percent. Lastly, the Studios replaced eight air conditioning units in various buildings to reduce energy consumption associated with air conditioning by 25 percent.
