Waste reduction initiatives come in a wide variety of forms at Disney. Notable efforts to reduce waste in 2007 include those at:

Disney Music Group (DMG): DMG is using more recycled materials and a lot less plastic in media packaging. New CDs by Rascal Flatts and Billy Ray Cyrus were packaged with specially formulated paper containing at least 30 percent post-consumer material. DMG used 100 percent recycled paperboard and plastic trays with at least 35 percent post-consumer recycled material in the Jonas Brothers self-titled CD and Deluxe Edition CD+DVD and the High School Musical 2: Collectors Edition CD+DVD. Additionally, the Jonas Brothers albums were released in CDVU+ format, developed by DMG's Hollywood Records, replacing much of the traditional, physical packaging with an on-disc multimedia experience including photos, videos, lyrics and more. This change eliminated the printing of more than one million CD booklets.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (WDSHE): Over 50 million obsolete DVDs were recycled (including the optical discs, paper inserts, and plastic cases). WDSHE has also reduced plastic content of DVD cases by 30 percent, saving over a billion grams of plastic. Lastly, WDSHE was the first studio to release feature films on iTunes, eliminating 100 percent of packaging for those purchases.
