Disney is committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and has embarked on a major effort to inventory our GHG output. In 2007, the Company created a new position to coordinate this inventory in cooperation with experts from Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development and Disney's corporate legal department. The new manager of GHG emissions started in April 2007. ENVIRON®, a consulting Company experienced in conducting GHG inventories for large companies was hired to assist in planning and executing the inventory, which got underway mid-year.
The Companywide emissions inventory began in mid-2007. Given the complex and dynamic structure of Disney's activities, clear boundary definitions are needed to organize emissions information. Disney has also initiated a process to set in place a framework for business units to record and report GHG data on a routine basis. A network of contacts has been established over the majority of business units to serve as primary suppliers of GHG emissions related data and the first phase of the inventory is expected to be completed by summer 2008.
