What We're Doing About Waste

Waste minimization has long been a priority for The Walt Disney Company (TWDC). Over the past 15 years, Disney has empowered business units to develop individual waste management policies and programs due to differing business circumstances and available recycling facilities. Under recent policies, Disney is refining strategies in the following ways:
- Individual business units will continue to increase recycling rates by using local recycling programs at various locations worldwide to the fullest extent possible, as well as improving hauler contracts to benefit both the bottom line and resource recovery.
- Disney's Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Department is developing a Green Sourcing strategy to increase the availability of environmentally preferred products for the broad employee base as well as business units.
- A global analysis is underway to assess the current status of waste stemming from Disney's global operations, including the development of a Companywide recycling standard and reporting system.
Even as we look to the future, the accomplishments of our Cast Members and employees are already very significant. This section provides a look at some of the more notable waste reduction achievements from 2007.
