Investing with Environmentality

The Walt Disney Company is aiming to impact both the bottom line and the environment by encouraging Shareholders to access Annual Reports and other materials online instead of receiving printed copies. There are a number of financial and environmental investments made with the production of any printed materials, so your commitment to electronic delivery really adds up. Read on to see how every little bit makes a huge difference!

Fun Facts
  • If a class 8 truck travels an average of 1500 miles to deliver Disney's Annual Report, and the truck is carrying a an average weight of 22 tons, approximately 173 gallons of fuel will be required to reach the destination. If the cargo weight is reduced by 15 tons, approximately 1 ton of carbon dioxide and 85 gallons of fuel will be saved!
  • Planting one acre of trees will help absorb 2.5 tons of carbon per year. (Source: TreeLink.com)
The financial benefits:
Choosing to receive your Shareholder materials electronically reduces costs associated with each of the following:
  • Purchasing paper
  • Printing
  • Use of natural resources required during the printing process, such as water and energy
  • Storage
  • Postage
  • Transportation and manpower associated with distribution and delivery
The environmental benefits:
  • Eliminating 50,000 printed annual reports saves approximately 15 tons of paper and 256 trees.
  • Reading your shareholder materials online reduces many of the environmental impacts associated with paper production, such as water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and solid waste.
  • Eliminating the need for transportation results in reduced carbon dioxide emissions, and an increase in clean-air efforts!
  • By planting trees, we are helping to restore the health of many forests around the country.
