California 2004 Jiminy Cricket's EnvironmentalityTM Challenge
Jiminy Cricket's 2004 Environmentality Challenge The 2003-2004 school year marked the 10th anniversary of Jiminy Cricket's EnvironmentalityTM Challenge in California. The program, which began as a partnership between The Walt Disney Company and three state agencies, now features a collaboration of 20 state agencies and departments, and two federal partners, the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. To date, more than 1 million students have participated in the Challenge, which continues to reinforce the values of environmental education and awareness, ensuring that the future generation will grow up thinking and acting with the environment in mind.

2004 Grand Prize Winner - California
Teacher Deni Lopez and her class of fifth grade students from Park View Center School in Simi Valley, California, received top honors this year from over 106,000 students from more than 3,500 classes who participated in this year's Environmentality Challenge. The class impressed judges with its environmental education project, "It's Everybody's Trash." As part of this project, the class managed the school's recycling efforts and developed an informative video to share the program with other schools. They also improved and maintained the school's worm farm and quarter acre garden, recycling more than 2000 pounds of cafeteria waste as worm food. In addition, the class conducted an extensive clean-up campaign at a local park that had been damaged by the recent wildfires, collecting more than 800 pounds of litter and planting 13 trees. For their efforts, the class received a "Jiminy" award at a special celebration held in their honor at Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim. The memorable ceremony featured Bob Iger, president of The Walt Disney Company, and Jack O'Connell, California Superintendent of Public Instruction.
