The Disney VoluntEARS program provides opportunities for Disney employees around the world to contribute their time and expertise towards making a positive impact in the communities they serve while furthering the traditions and ideals of The Walt Disney Company. In 2006, Disney VoluntEARS contributed more than 485,000 hours of service and the company drew upon its unique magic to make wishes come true for children and families.
On April 26, The Walt Disney Company celebrated its first International VoluntEARS Day focusing on all of the countries where we operate outside of the U.S. Over 4,000 employees in 40 countries donated over 20,000 hours in the communities in which they live and work. With over 100 projects across the nations, benefiting over 45,000 people and communities, employees spent the day helping children and families in their respective regions while joining forces with colleagues from across the globe.
Whether helping young people in Germany volunteer and take pride in their schools, to supporting the first ever breast cancer walks in France, hosting children at the Madrid Zoo, teaching dubbing and looping of Disney animation to children in Warsaw, or picking up rubbish along the foreshore of the River Thames in London, employees and cast members of The Walt Disney Company in Europe, take an active role in supporting a wide range of programs reflecting the many cultures of the region.
In China, Disney employees are focusing on major redecorating of hospital play areas for children in Beijing and Guangzhou. In 2007 China will make over 15 hospitals and 25 orphanages benefiting over 300 children. In addition, Disney employees in China and their families have hosted over 500 children from orphanages at Disney Family movies this year.
In India, Disney employees focus on brightening hospitals and orphanages by redecorating hallways and play areas, delivering Disney products and facilitating character visits and parties on a regular basis for children.
