Reusing your plastic bag over and over again around the house or office is the smartest thing to do! Once you're ready to recycle it, consider these resources to find the closest collection point to your home or office:
  1. Visit http://www.plasticbagrecycling.org. Click the "Consumer" tab, and then choose your state from the pull-down menu to find the location nearest you.
  2. Visit http://www.earth911.org, and under "Find a Recycling or Reuse location," enter "plastic bag" in the "what" box, your zip code, city or state in the next, and then hit "go".
  3. Look for recycle bins at most large grocery and retail stores.
  4. Check with your local jurisdiction to discover further options for recycling.
TIPS
  • Use sturdy reusable bags in lieu of disposables whenever possible.
  • Keep plastic bags clean, dry and free of food to ensure successful recycling.
  • Remove paper receipts from bags prior to recycling.
  • Combine bags for recycling into a single bag.
  • Do not include cling wrap or pre-packaged food bags, like pre-washed salad or frozen food bags.
  • Do not include biodegradable or compostable or cloth reusable bags.
  • Do not bring plastic bags to the beach or shore where wind is likely to blow them away.
