Larry Shapiro is executive vice president of business development and operations for the Walt Disney Internet Group (WDIG) and general manager of its North American mobile content business. In his mobile content role, Shapiro leads both mDisney, which focuses on Disney-branded mobile content, as well as Starwave Mobile, which was established to focus on publishing third party properties and non-Disney branded mobile content from within The Walt Disney Company. In his business development role, Shapiro leads all content, distribution and technology partnership activities for the company across new media platforms and he also manages WDIG's legal and public affairs functions.
A key player in the formation of WDIG, Shapiro previously served as executive vice president, business development and operations for The Walt Disney Company's online unit, Buena Vista Internet Group (BVIG). Prior to the November 1999 merger of Infoseek Corporation and BVIG, Shapiro was senior vice president, business and legal affairs for BVIG.
He joined the company as vice president-counsel within Disney's corporate legal department, where he led numerous transactions, including Disney's acquisition of Starwave Corporation and its 1998 investment in Infoseek. Before joining Disney, Shapiro was an associate at two Los Angeles-area law firms: Weil, Gotshal & Manges, and O'Melveny & Myers.
Shapiro graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and holds a J.D. from the University of Michigan
